Coming from a family of Honduran immigrants remains a constant inspiration and motivation behind my creative process. I work primarily with stone because of its centrality to the Indigenous material cultures I feel not only a deep connection to, but a moral obligation to reframe and keep alive. For me, hewing into stone is a way to hew into rich histories of resistance to imperialism, not only in Honduras but the wider area we call “Central America.”

As a stone sculptor, I believe that three-dimensional art communicates complexity in a uniquely accessible fashion. I lean into this potential by combining heavy, traditional materials with what might be typically conceived of as lightweight ideas, themes, or culture. The disparity between old and new, serious and pulp fiction, opens a wide avenue for interpretation. Playful ideas can be seen in a new light when rendered in sturdy, enduring materials. My body of work is built upon these possibilities, and the bedrock belief — supported by research and personal experience — that not all vital history has been set in stone. And that stone itself still has the capacity to speak new ideas, stories, and truth to audiences today.
